One of SHIELD's most elite agents, Clint Barton, code-named Hawkeye, is the greatest living marksman on Earth. Armed with his weapon of choice, the recurve bow, Hawkeye fires his arsenal of custom augmented arrows, specialised for any number of specific situations, with perfect precision. With the potential for global catastrophe on the horizon, he employs his amazing combat skills to fight along side The Avengers



At a young age, he proved to be a more than capable archer, and in combination with his exceptional sight, honed the gifts into a tool. In his youth, he would win archery competitions with ease. Indeed, even when he tried handicapping himself, either shooting with his off hand, randomising the weight and flex of the arrows he was carrying for a shoot, making the bow he would use the day before, it always seemed quite simple to beat other people. So, he stopped attending, because winning was too easy, he wanted new challenges.

That was when he started to register on S.H.I.E.L.D.'s radar as a potential recruit.

Then there was this incident. He was at a friend's house. There was alcohol around, and for the first time in his life, a significant amount found it's way into his system. He doesn't want to remember what happened next, but he can't not. The loss of control of his body scared him. The way his eyes, which are his real asset, as far as he was concerned, were so limited when under the influence, utterly terrified him. Two people ended up injured before he could be restrained.

At this point, S.H.I.E.L.D. elected to step in. They offered him the opportunity to make something of his life. They admitted they'd had an eye on him for a while, and said, if he took a job with them and stayed sober, they could get him out of the Jail term he'd be facing for assault. Wanting to make something of his life, he accepted.

He's been tee-total, ever since.

At that point, he began to train seriously. Becoming proficient in hand-to-hand combat, he ended up becoming S.H.I.E.L.D.'s, well, master assassin is probably the most direct name for it, capable of ending a life with a single well placed arrow.
